Kirk Is On My S*&t List Right Now!

Confession: Yes, I do watch ratchet reality shows. It is research for my radio show topics .... :)

Okay, I know reality TV is very rarely real and the antics of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta have always been rumored to be one of the more scripted reality shows.  However, I still have to speak on the recent developments regarding Rasheeda and her husband Kirk.  Real or staged for ratings his attitude regarding her pregnancy is just dead wrong.

Rasheeda this season on Love & Hip Hop revealed that she is pregnant to her husband/ manager Kirk. While recognizing that the timing is bad with a new music project on the horizon; she is excited because they have been talking for a while about expanding their family.  She knows he will be surprised, but like most wives feels that in the end he will be happy.  Kirk wasn't happy and went as far as to say she did it on purpose, tricked him, should abort the baby and that the kid may not even be his.  I couldn't believe that on a national stage he was calling his wife out like she was a random hook-up.

Real Deal

Now let's just say that the cameras are really catching their true exchanges regarding Rasheeda's surprise pregnancy at a time that they are trying build her career.  Kirk is the most classless and unsympathetic spouse.  How can you look at your wife and the mother of your child and tell her that she needs to get rid of the baby? Rasheeda was right in stating that she didn't make the baby by herself and that she is a wife ... not a girlfriend or a one night stand and that he needed to adjust the same way she is adjusting to the situation.  For him to question the paternity and encourage her to get rid of the baby because he already had too many kids (one by Rasheeda and I guess kids by other women) is just an ass move.  He has a right to be surprised and even upset that life is changing at an inconvenient time, but you are married and if you love your wife you play at being happy and then slowly reveal your concerns and then work as a couple to decide where this baby fits in and what to do.

Fake Drama

Now if all of this is just a story line to stay on a hit show then I am still pissed off at Kirk.  I understand creating drama and getting more camera time, but have they as a couple thought about what this child is going to think about these exchanges when they eventually see these shows, read about his/ her parent's star turn or have someone bring up the drama around their birth at a family function or on a playground.  Today nothing is forgotten and everything has an online record and there is no way that this child could be shielded from daddy wanting to abort it, denying it or making mom sad during the time she is suppose to be most happy.  If this is indeed a fake story, I think Kirk went in a little hard and doesn't see how this will effect this child's future.

In the end, I have no problem with people using reality TV to up their profile and sell the mess out of their products.  However, I think when it comes to a marriage and kids you have to always temper what you do because these images and actions no longer just effect the way the world views you, but it also greatly effects how the world views your family unit. Real or scripted this drama around this child is now documented forever and what child ever wants to hear that they were not wanted, planned for or loved from the start.  Even with all the crazy that follows Mimi and Stevie J's story line; it seems pretty clear that when their daughter is on set that they soften the drama a bit and we actually see the two of them being civil.  S and M seem to get that while the show is a huge opportunity for the parents it is not fair to the daughter to be part of the crazy.  I never thought I would say it, but could Stevie J be a better man than Kirk??? The world may be truly coming to an end.

  1. I think Rasheeda and Kirk's storyline is fake...Kirk complained about money problems and wanted Rasheeda to get on Karlie Redd's diss track (which would have been a travesty)...Rasheeda has not had any hit rap songs...She only performs in small clubs....She is in her late 30s'...K. Michelle is leaving the show to go to New York, so they couldn't milk that story line anymore...Rasheeda and Kirk were desparate....Look at how fast she forgave him enough to come back home....Even when she spoke about it, the whole thing seemed scripted...Like when Rasheeda said, "Wow you really went there with me" (really)...Her reactions were too calm for an emotional pregnant woman...Mimi, Joseline, Erica wouldn't react that way and Rasheeda is suppose to be "street"...Very fake indeed....

I have been hearing from lots of folk that the story line may be fake. It is reality TV so that wouldn't be much of a stretch :) The truth is that the ugliness of it all even if it is acting is just not good for any relationship or family.
